Bike and Nature Trails
From one end of the county to the other, prairie paths and trails wind their way for 85 miles through our Forest Preserves.  A scenic trek may espy the Great Blue Heron, the Fabyan Windmill, Red and White Oaks, or spring wildflowers that are waiting to be discovered. Trails are 8 feet wide and surfaced with either asphalt or packed limestone chips. The trails are marked with the universal safety signs every ½ mile to locate users in emergencies.

Picnic Areas
Reservations are available to county residents beginning January 2, and non-county residents February 1. Unless reserved, the shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  Click on a forest preserve in the below list to visit its web page for further details.

Off-Leash Dog Areas
The Kane County Forest Preserves dog exercise areas provide ideal settings for trained dogs running where indicated. Dog owners are asked to clean-up after their pooches to keep the area clean for all users.  Click on a forest preserve in the below list to visit its web page for further details.
